Mystic Falls Close-Up

San Juan Mountains, Colorado

Some people dip their toes in. I went all in — knees deep in freezing, fast-moving mountain water to get this shot.

After capturing my first photo of Mystic Falls, I knew I hadn’t seen it all. I wanted something more immersive, something that really showed the raw power of the water and the textures of the rock face up close. The only way? Step into it.

Wearing full gear, I inched my way into the river — slippery rocks underfoot, icy water rushing against my shins… then thighs… then knees. Every part of me was yelling, “Maybe don’t?”

But the framing was perfect. The light was soft. And that roar of the falls? Completely hypnotic.

I stood there, soaked and frozen, holding the shot while mist hit my lens and water splashed just enough to make everything slightly more dramatic.

This isn’t just a waterfall photo — it’s a tribute to going that extra step (or ten) when you know the shot is worth it.

Where Nature Meets the Wall

Every photograph begins with a whisper from the wild — a burst of golden light, the hush of wings, a mountain breathing in stillness. Now those moments can live with you.
